Twitter gained its popularity by keeping things short and sweet and limiting people’s tweets to 140 characters. Now, the latest news is Twitter is extending their character count to 280.
Say what? We finally perfected the art of crafting an awesome tweet under 140 characters. Is everything going to change with a longer tweet?
Before we start a tweet storm about this news, not everyone will be able to try out the 280-character limit. To make it clear, this is a test and not a permanent roll out. However, Twitter has been slowly moving towards loosening the restrictions on its character limit.
In the last year, Twitter began allowing users to add more information to tweets like @names, photos and polls without going over the character limit.
Interestingly, the idea to expand the character limit came from looking at how different languages are more or less space-efficient. Languages such as Japanese, Chinese and Korean are more space-efficient and thus allow people to say more. People using these languages won’t be able to take part in this test.
So what do you think? Are you all for a longer tweet form or do you say stick to the classic 140 characters? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
